Rainbow Hair!!!

I'm sitting in FDP's comfy salon chair now as I type this and attempt to blog the journey while Angeline works her magic into my hair. (And I'll probably finish this blog post days later hahaha!) For those who've been following my Instagram and blog, you'd know she's my hairy godmother. I've known her for more than 10 years and I'm super glad about where she has come. She knows what she's doing, and is the woman behind Hirzi and Munah, as well as Tabitha Nauser and Nadiah M Din. And me. =)

So it all started with Instagram. I saw these pictures of crazy beautiful rainbow hair, and for some reason (even though I've seen rainbow hair before and never was drawn to any of them) I suddenly had the urge to go all colourful. Maybe the rainbow hair styles I saw before had a bad mix of colours, because using any wrong shade, or choosing the wrong shade to go with the colour next to or below it, really can make your hair look more "eeyer" than Wow.

I have been warned that some colours may be hard to wash off after, but I'm prepared. I've checked with my Tanglin folks, and since I'd be taking a break from shoot for a bit it's okay for me to change my hair colour. YES!!!! So there was excitement, and anxiety, and then psyched to get those colours, and then anxiety again. Lol. Will it turn out like those rainbow hair I didn't like? What if I regret? I like my current hair so much as well, so if it turns out bad will I hate myself? That kind of thing.

I went into FDP with a crazy heartbeat. It wasn't showing on my face, but it was definitely there. When I went in I still wasn't sure if I wanted something milder or the full-on rainbow.

I went with, yes, the full-on. *fingers crossed*

I already have pretty amazing looking hair, all thanks to Angeline, but my roots were growing out and well, so just nice I was going on a holiday to europe so I really wanted my hair to pop in my pictures. Yes. Hiao. Hey got to up my IG game right? Lol! =D

My hair before today. I didn't apply anything on my hair ends, nor styled my hair in any way. This was after waking up and just having changed and done my makeup. Unbrushed, uncombed, raw out of bed hair. You can understand why I'm anxious and worried right? This hair looked so amazing, what if my new hair turns out like shit? What if I don't like it? What if all my clothes don't go with my new hair colour???

As I had black hair growing out (we call this virgin hair, meaning hair that hasn't got anything done to it before), I had to bleach the roots first. This took just 20-30 minutes and it didn't hurt at all. Which was nice.

One more for a fair comparison under the lighting here which is a bit warmer.

Bleaching of the roots.

Roots done! It didn't hurt at all. Okay one thing you MUST remember (which I forgot) is that prior to doing any crazy colour which requires prior bleaching, DO NOT wash your hair for at least 2 days before the dye job. This is to allow your own oils to coat your scalp, which acts as a kind of barrier between your scalp and the bleach that is going to sit on your scalp. Having said that, after the first bleach (chances are you will need more than one), they will rinse your hair to get rid of the bleach. At this point they will not use shampoo yet but the rinsing might still get rid of some oils on your scalp.

So be prepared, the second bleach is going to hurt. If you don't want it to hurt tell your stylist to avoid your roots. But seriously, the colour will have a bit of black up there, which I do not want. So, bite your lips and bear with it. BUT, that being said, if it hurts so bad you are sweating and you swear that you are going to get brain damage, tell your stylist. I was sweating like mad and it hurt so badly but I just bore with the pain. In the end, one side of my scalp, the side which hurt the most, was flaking and scabbing. Eeeks. No I didn't get brain damage, but my sensitive scalp did suffer some bleach burn. Do note that I have really thin skin, because for most people, this doesn't happen. (My sis said her friend bleached like 8 times to get really light hair. And the scalp was fine. Mine just took like 2 times???)

Anyway, to get to the below effect, though only 2 bleaches, took about 5 hours. Mmm hmm.

Who is this ang mor?

And the colouring finally began!

Each clump of hair has to be carefully chosen with the right colours so the colours blend into each other at the gradients. So make sure your stylist has good colour sense!

This green was so intriguing, it looked like some kind of tree lizard or snake. Okok maybe a pretty leaf shade lol.

Tadah! You can't tell how it'll look just yet until the blowdrying is done.

See those colours? Mmm mmm~~~

Woohoo! Initially I was really worried about how it may turn out. I'm sure Angeline was jittery too haha! But I think it worked out well!

And here's the final result:
TADAH~~~

The colour just gets better with each wash though. Think more pastel.

This was after 1 wash. The hair was in a much better condition than I expected. The ends weren't breaking off like crazy. You do have to blow dry immediately after your wash though, for it to look nice when it dries. The same goes for all hair actually. Unless you're into the whole bedhead look thing. Also, remember to apply some kind of hair treatment on your hair to help close up the hair shaft. Chances are they are all opened up and that could cause breakage. Applying treatment or some kind of hair oil will also help give it a nice sheen.

Suddenly I could carry off purple eyeliner. How awesome is this???

And after the second wash this was my hair:
Mummy look! I have rainbow hair!!!!!
THANK YOU ANGE!!!!!!! I've never been more intrigued by my own hair!!!

How to Find Good Property Deals Below Valuation: Belowval

$
0
0
As a property agent, I've often been asked if I know of any good deals, or if I can help owners or homeseekers find a client or an urgent place to stay. So I often had to browse a lot of property sites to help my clients find the best deals.

Now, here's a fact that non-agents will most probably not know: Many agents post fishing ads.

WHAT ARE FISHING ADS?
Basically, these are ads of deals which do not actually exist. These agents will post up vague ads like "HDB in Toa Payoh for Sale" or "Houses in Bukit Timah for Rent", and when you call, they then have you as a potential client and use that to help you find a place in Toa Payoh. Not that it's a bad thing since he will help you anyway, but it's just not ethical, in my opinion. Also, it's frustrating for people who actually want to find something fast, because they spam and clutter the property sites, among which real urgent deals are waiting to be made, making these deals very hard to find.
Also, even if the listings were real, there are some agents or owners who post multiple listings of the same property and, once the deal has been closed, do not bother to take down the listings. Can you imagine how much clutter this is on these property sites?

These homeowners are selling urgently for a reason - they could be migrating, relocating because of work or kids or marriage, family change, or they might be urgently needing money. Whatever the reason is, these homeowners wish to make a sale as soon as possible, without losing out on too much.

Here's another fact: Many urgent deals that do not meet with good potential clients get bought over by big companies with a lot of money.

Now, when these owners need to urgently sell their houses but people can't find them, they usually get approached by law firms, estate trustees, or other distressed asset funds which will come "save" them. The catch? The offer price is usually a lot lower than what the owner would like to settle for, even for urgent sales.

So when belowval was launched, I was pretty curious. As its name states, this property site only lists urgent sale properties that are below valuation. Why, I wonder, did no one think of this sooner? After speaking to the founders and the people behind belowval, I was bought over. When agents or home owners post on belowval, each listing gets checked and verified so you can be sure these listings are actually there. Listings are also constantly checked on to make sure they are up to date. Also, because belowval does not list regular-priced properties, there are less listings on their site, making finding a home so much easier.

Most users on belowval are genuine buyers and homeseekers, so one can be pretty assured that you won't be dealing with "window-shoppers" who just want to "look see". It's pretty win-win the way I see it. Urgent home sellers will likely reduce their prices to increase demand (but yet are not willing to sell tooooo low to companies when they meet their deadlines and have no choice), and homeseekers get to find something they like but may not have the budget for the regular-priced ones.

Properties are properly classified according to type and budget so it's a lot easier to search for what you're looking for and what you can afford.

They are in the midst of building their app, but you can check out belowval.sg here. All the current below valuation listings are there!

I do not work for them, in case you're wondering. I'm an agent with HSR, a local property agency.
If you need help with selling or renting out your home,  drop me an email at silverang@hsr.com.sg, and we can discuss further from there. =) Alternatively, drop an SMS to 88080306, and my team will be pleased to help you! One thing's for sure, I'll be using belowval for all my clients! ;)

Here's a video in case you didn't understand a single word I typed. Lol. JK! But this is a summary of what belowval is:

What Being 30 Means

$
0
0

So there, I turned 30 last year, and I'm turning 31 by midnight tonight. Not like it has really done anything to me. When I was younger I had this plan you know, like oh get a job I really really like, then get married at 25, have kids a couple of years later, then by 30 buy a landed property and live happily ever after.

Eh...

None of that happened.

To be honest, I feel like I'm 24 (but a little wiser), I'm still exploring the never-ending world out there, I still feel like I need to travel (a lot), I'm still learning, and no, being 30 doesn't make me a 萬事通. Here are things you will learn about being 30.

1. Life will sort itself out.

I know, at 20 we just see ourselves finishing school and going out there into the real world, fighting our own battles and coming out a real adult, with plans to tick off (like mine). Sometimes the universe just has something else planned. And it may not necessarily be a bad thing.

2. No one's going to give you a pat on the back for the great things you've done.
I can do great things. Like attempt to fly.
Gone are the days when being an 8-pointer for your O'levels secures you a trip to the Florida Disneyland by your parents. You are responsible for yourself now, more so now that you're (already) 30. That being said, when you do have a little achievement, take time to celebrate that. If you don't dote on yourself, who will?

3. Also, no one's going to scold you anymore for the wrong things you are doing.

If they wanted to, they'd have already done so. At 30, unless you have a great mentor or a senior who actually bothers, no one will reprimand you. They won't bother because they'd have figured out that you already know. Or they won't dare to because they are more junior than you. If you smell bad because you didn't wash your clothes? Well you should have done your laundry. If your teeth are rotting and you can't find a bf because you haven't bothered to take care of your oral hygiene, guess who's to blame? If you look bad, well, that's your own problem. FIX IT.

4. You have to start exercising.

This one we've all heard. I've heard this from when I first started working, from the "adults in their 30s". I used to think it's just them being old and starting to be wiser about health and taking better care of their bodies. Turns out, it IS FREAKING TRUE! That the metabolism miraculously just decides to slow down. We used to not have to exercise and still keep the figure despite eating whatever we liked. Or lose weight easily when we had to. Now? Nuh-uh. You want that figure? Work for it. No work? Okay, Humpty-Dumpty, your choice.

5. We have a LOT to learn. More than when we were kids.

When I was little I never had to Google stuff. I just knew how to do them! Or at least, I always had my own way of doing the things I never knew how to do. These days, I feel a lot more stupid.

6. Passion may start to die a little, or change.
Yup, when I was younger and you offered me the world I'd take it. Now, tell me the a China company wants to sign me on and offer me a 10 year contract as an actress/singer, I'm going to take a very long time to consider. You see, what was passion then could have changed. I still enjoy what I do, but now I might want something else. I don't have many more 10 years left, and now what I want is to build my own business and see it grow. That's kind of more exciting now.

7. Botox is real.

I don't know if you've ever been one of those who goes "Aiyoh she goes for botox!" or "Man I want to age gracefully", but for me, when lines appear around the eyes and even the most expensive creams don't help, I reach for the phone to make an appointment with my aesthetic doctor. I'm not condoning aesthetic treatments, but I'm not shunning them either. They are doctors, and doctors are meant to help people. Plus, if the government allows doctors to use these on people, these things can't be bad. Sometimes, if all it takes is a jab to make you feel like you can take on the world again, by all means go ahead! Just make sure you go to a trusted doctor. ;)

So there you go. What it's like to be 30. Now I'm gonna wash up and prepare. In about 2 minutes, I'm turning 31. See ya on the other side!

The Nivea Intensive Moisture Body Milk Series

$

All my life, living here in humid Singapore, I've never liked the idea of applying moisturizers on my body. Okay actually I do, this whole desire to get soft skin thing, but not after applying moisturizer and going out and feeling sticky WHILE sweating. Eeek.

Then came work life. I started using moisturizers, not out of vanity though. I was a cabin crew, and I never thought the dry cabin air and overseas weather would make my skin itch so badly. It was my first few flights. I was scratching my legs even while serving passengers. I was scratching my arms while going around Tokyo. I was scratching everywhere my pores got red and I got red bumps all over. It was that bad. Then I learnt from my seniors that this itching was because of my skin surface cracking due to dryness.

#mindblown

So I started applying generous amounts of moisturizer all over myself. Before flights, during flights over my stockings, after shower, before bed. And true enough, the itching stopped. That was my first encounter with the perils of dry skin. And my first lesson on how not taking care of this biggest organ on my body could lead to so much discomfort.

Now that I'm not flying as much anymore (I still love my travels!), I still maintaining the beauty habit of moisturizing before bed (sometimes). I was hesitant about moisturizing in the day before I go out though, because of this humid, sticky feeling that I might get. And then I received these 2 bottles of Intensive Moisture Body Milk and one with SPF15 from NIVEA a couple of weeks ago.

I had to try this one on first because so far I haven't had much luck with finding body moisturizers that doesn't end up feeling sticky. Plus, this one has UV protection & moisturizes, so it replaces my sunscreen (which makes me feel sticky anyway). 2 in 1, why not?

Surprisingly, this doesn't feel sticky at all! My skin just feels smooth after! Now I don't have to apply moisturizer AND sunscreen.
Good on you, NIVEA!

Then there is their bestselling product - the Intensive Moisture Body Milk.

This item has become my nightly holy grail.
Firstly, the smell. I smell like a baby after using it! I don't even know how to describe it - it's milky with a nice fragrance, not floral nor sweet or musky or anything like that. Just a nice neutral smell that makes me smell like freshly showered baby. ^-^

Secondly, I LOVE HOW IT MAKES MY SKIN SO SMOOTH!
Let me show you how my skin already looks and feels different after my first application:
Eeeks. Don't judge me okay, I'm making a big sacrifice by showing you my fat but dry thighs. See the skin? Look how dry and scaly it was?

I applied the Body Milk to my left thigh so you can see the difference.
No edit. No photoshop to make my skin less scaly.

Before (left) and after (right).

Next, this is not sticky either! Both these 2 items I tried (with and without SPF) left my skin feeling very smooth and soft. I even tried applying powder about 10-15 minutes after, and the powder just went on smoothly without leaving clumpy traces the way it would when your skin is sticky or wet. I don't know if this is weird, but I touch the back of my own hands a lot now lol!

I don't know why I never started using you earlier, but I'm going to finish these 2 bottles for sure. I have almost NEVER finished any bottle of body moisturizer in my life, so you can see how impressed I am with these. In fact, I think I'm going to buy more and share these with my BFF Mint who's getting married in a couple months' time! Hey, which bride doesn't want baby smooth skin right?

NIVEA is so confident of their efficacy of their bestselling Intensive Moisture range that they're challenging you to try it. If you do not see smoother skin after application, you can get your money back! T&C here!

The NIVEA Intensive Moisture Body Milk (250ml - $6.90, 400ml - $9.90) as well as the Intensive Moisture Body Milk SPF 15 ($10.90) retails exclusively at Watson's. I think there's a 33% storewide sale at all outlets now, which means time to go shopping! ;)

Use These Tests to Decide Which Pokémon Go Team You Should Join

The world is going crazy over the Pokémon Go game launched just 2 weeks ago, and Singaporeans can't wait for when this app finally launches on our shores.

I have already downloaded it, thanks to an APK mirror which I can't tell if it works because there are no official Pokéstops or Pokémons in Singapore yet. But you can try downloading it here. So far I think the app is safe, no known malware or anything, but don't take my word for it lol. You can catch your first Pokémon, which will surely appear once you first load the game. Word has it that if you keep ignoring the first 3 types of Pokémon, Pikachu will appear, and you can catch him as your first Pokémon.

When you get to Level 5, you will need to choose a team that you will fight with throughout the rest of your Pokémon Trainer life. You cannot change this once you have selected a team, so choose wisely. I like the colour blue because Team Mystic is supposedly the brainiest and I'd like to think of myself as so, but then I have nation pride so I'm also inclined to do the red. Plus Team Valor's logo is pretty fierce.

Choices, choices. So what did I do? Leave it to fate. Lol. Like Harry Potter's sorting hat.
Here are 2 sorta-personality tests to help you decide. I stumbled upon them while trying to figure out which one to choose.

My results for both clearly indicate that I'm no doubt meant to be in this team.

Team Singapore it is! #redandwhiteunite

Do note that it would be nice if friends or family are in the same team, so you can fight/defend gyms together, and stuff like that. Just so you know. #redandwhiteunite hahahaa
(By the way, don't you think it would be cool if all Singaporeans were in the same team?)

Which team are you meant to be in?

P.S. Guessing a lot of people will be trying to talk about Pokémon a lot in the coming months, maybe years, so here's some trivia. If you're using a Mac, to type that funny é in Pokémon, you press Opt + e to get the apostrophe, then release and type e. You're welcome. ;)

Fern Studio75: Alliums & Delphiniums

Thank you Fern Studio75 for always sending me beautiful flowers every week. They do a weekly floral subscription service so I always have fresh flowers in my house! This is such a brilliant idea, since we have subscription services for milk, beauty products, food... Why not flowers??

This time my flowers came in a huge lovely purple bouquet more than half my height. O.O

These purple bulbs are called alliums, also known as flowering onions, giant onions, or ornamental onions. I never knew onions could give me such pretty flowers!

These elegant accompanying flowers are called Delphiniums. These remind me of quaint English cottage gardens! Note to parents with young kids or dogs - delphiniums are poisonous when young, so make sure they don't get eaten up! Then again, we don't normally eat flowers, do we?

Carnations.

With little dashes of Caspias and Waxflowers. ^.^

Thank you Fern Studio75!

Look Better with Marie France Bodyline 30-Day Challenge

Hello!!! It's been a while since I was last here. Have been busy working on something really exciting, and Tanglin has most of my time these days. Anyways, here I am!

I just started on this new 30-Day Challenge with Marie France Bodyline, and I am psyched! Well, to begin with, you need to know my story. I was happily in the range of 50 to 53kg between 2006 to 2011. I think that was the lightest I've ever been in my life, minus the times I was a kid. (I think I hit 50kg at Primary 4 and have never gone below ever since.) So between 2012 to 2016 (now), I somehow managed to put on 6-7kg to hit about 60kg. I know. Can't tell right? Lol. But I am. You may say it's age catching up, or maybe it was due to a hip injury I had (I was a dancer when I was younger, and I sustained a hip injury then) that actually prevented me from doing the exercises I enjoy. Hey after all, you should be doing the exercises/activities you enjoy, right? I was having knee pains every time after I worked out, it was frustrating. So much so that I stopped exercising altogether. With online shopping being so rampant, I even stopped going to the malls. Talk about a sedentary-ish lifestyle huh.

I was lucky in the sense that my work actually requires me to go everywhere and do stuff, so I can't just plonk my ass on a chair and not move until work is done. But still, I never really watched my diet. Like most of us, I ate whatever and whenever I felt like. I'm lucky I'm not much of a snacker, otherwise I might be 70kg by now.

Anyway, I just decided that I think I've had enough of being chubby. I'm not fat, not in normal layman eyes. But I am fat onscreen, in this crazy industry where you're judged a lot on your looks, especially if you're a woman. And just a couple weeks ago I had this director tell me there was no point watching what I ate since I won't slim down anyway. OUCH. Like wth?

Yah. The stuff I have to go through. Anyway that was a rude wakeup call. Yeah you see all these self-love love yourself no matter what your weight is stuff on IG, and it's all really inspiring, but as women, deep down, we all want to be a little slimmer healthier. Don't get me wrong. I'm really happy being how I am, but I really wouldn't mind being able to fit into clothes better, and not have my thighs rub together when I'm wearing shorts. (Not to mention having the inside of the shorts ride up as they rub together.) I want to look better, feel better, work at least for these 30 days for a body I would rather have. Instead of just complaining and whining once in a while that I look chubby. I want to feel good about myself. So I took on this challenge.

I was taken through a consultation so I know what to expect for the next 30 days, and what kind of treatments I will be getting. After which I met the nutritionist, who took my body fat analysis test and gave me advice on what kind of foods to eat and what not to.

If you are like me, you must have read thousands of articles on what kinds of diets work and what don't. To avoid confusing yourself (like I did at first), for this 30 days, follow the recommended nutritional plan as advised by the nutritionist. If you're going to go with the program, go all the way. It helps to only have one nutritional advice to follow, and to have an actual professional nutritionist help you monitor it. =)

So what should you expect?

In 30 days, expect to look better. There is a team of nutritionists, consultants and therapists that will be there to help you achieve a better body. You do have to step out of your comfort zone, but it will all be worth it. I'm pretty excited myself about how my results will be in a month!

You will go through 8 treatments, and 4 weekly customised nutrition plans. They will do a body fat analysis before and after the 30 days so you can compare your own results. You will also be given a free goodie bag which includes two retail-sized home care kit: 1 from the Bodytech series & the other from the all-natural Slendher Series, a 30 Days Challenge Tank Top and a $100 Marie France Bodyline Treatment Voucher. All these which are worth a total of $2140.

For just $300.

If I could change my life for $300, I'd grab it.

I'll be documenting my progress on Instagram so you can follow me at @silver_ang.
You can also check out and sign up for the Marie France Bodyline 30-Day Challenge at goo.gl/guHM17.

I suffer from dry skin, especially when I travel. I remember when I used to travel a lot more, I would scratch my legs so much that they end up bleeding because my skin cracked from being too dry. *cringe* I know. Then when I'm back in Singapore I don't moisturize because our weather somehow makes the skin very sticky when we moisturize and sweat in the heat after.
That was before I found NIVEA. This is a brand that has been around for as long as I can remember, but why I never used it before in my life, I had no idea. All I remember when I first tried the NIVEA Intensive Moisture Body Milk was "WOW WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE???" It wasn't sticky, it smelt great, and best of all, it actually moisturizes and makes my skin so so soft.
There was only one problem, my skin still felt a little dry after flights. It's this thing about inflight cabin air that makes our cuticles harden after flights. Not sure if it happens to you, but my hands suffer the most when I fly. Followed by the skin on my shin.
Then the kind people at NIVEA sent me their latest product a few weeks ago.
nivea2
NIVEA's floral-scented Oil in Body Milk!
This is a body moisturizer that combines caring oils with nutrient-rich milk and precious natural ingredients to give a glycerin-based lotion enveloped with delicate floral fragrances. If you've ever tried using body oils, you'll know that they kind of stain the sheets, especially if your sheets are white are mine. As this is a glycerin-based formula, it doesn't do that! Plus it's a nice in-between for body oils and body milk. Woohoo!
nivea6
Smells can impact our moods, so NIVEA has carefully chosen 2 smells that positively do that. The NIVEA Skin Delight Oil in Body Milk Glowing Rose has rejuvenating and healing benefits, and smells really feminine, whilst the Skin Delight Oil in Body Milk Relaxing Lavender is infused with a delicate lavender scent to soothe, calm and put me in a relaxing mood. I particularly like using the Glowing Rose for day, and the Lavender one for bedtime. But you can apply any of these any time of the day to suit your moods.
nivea5
You know how moisturizers smell good for a while after application, and the smell just disappears a few hours later? You can actually extend the positive aromatic effects by layering on fragrances. Say you have a rose-based EDT or perfume, just spritz it on after you've applied your moisturizer. That will keep the smell lingering the whole day!
nivea4
Pair the NIVEA Skin Delight Oil in Body Milk with your favourite rose-based EDT or EDP to feel rejuvenated and feminine the whole day. Also, I noticed one thing after a day of using the Oil in Body Milk formula - my skin felt really soft even when I reached home at night! And this was after a whole day of being in the dry air-conditioned filming studio. This was something I didn't expect, and that also meant the moisturizing effects run really deep!
After showering, just pat the body milk onto slightly damp skin to keep skin feeling soft. No more excuses for dry, flaky, itchy skin!

Marie France Bodyline 30-Day Challenge - How Was It?

$

Okay guys! My 30 Days Challenge with Marie France Bodyline! Throughout the 30 days there were some lifestyle changes that I needed to make out of my comfort zone but it was all so worth it!

Here's what to expect.

Day 1:
I met the awesome team who would help me become the next Fann Wong (okay kidding, she's THE goddess can???) - the consultant, nutritionist, therapists. They were really nice and friendly, and helped advise me on how to get through the next 30 days as breezily as possible.

My measurements were then taken. This is the scary part.

I had no idea I was becoming a barrel before I embarked on this challenge. I knew I had gained weight because clothes were getting a little too tight for comfort, but a 31-inch waist was scary for a woman standing at only 162cm.

Now, close your mouth. Don't judge.

I was advised on what kinds of treatments I would be going for according to my problem areas, which were mainly my tummy, ass, thighs...the lower body. Basically a pear-shaped body, which is also known as a Gonad Body Type. You know, I’ve always thought of myself as just bottom heavy, and never really labelled myself as a pear-shaped body. ARGH!!!!!!! *cries*

So I would be given 2 sessions of Express Lipo Thalasso Therapy (ELTT), 4 sessions of Body Contouring Treatment (FMS), 1 session of FMS with exercise machine, and 1 session of Acoustic Radial Therapy (ART). You can skip the treatments part if you're not really into details, but I'll include them for the benefit for those who are curious. Basically I was put on 2 sessions of treatments a week and advised to follow a diet plan,

In the first week I started with 2 sessions of ELTT. The ELTT treatment uses Seaweed Thermal Therapy, 2 of the most effective methods in tissue cleansing combining seaweed and heat. I was given a 20 minutes massage on my problem area while lying down on a thermal bed, after which a seaweed mask was applied to my body. I was then wrapped up in a thermal blanket to let the seaweed mask and the heat work. This treatment works to help the body detox.

I was told by my nutritionist that my nutrition intake for this coming 30 days will be crucial for optimum results. She gave me a 7 day detox meal plan to follow. Which is super low in carbs with fair amounts of lean protein, fruits and green leafy veggies. I was to drink only water and decaf coffee or tea, which works for me because I only ever like drinking water. =)

Why the need to detox? Because unless you have been eating really healthily (which I'm sure you haven't else you wouldn't be here reading this), chances are your body has a lot of toxins that need to be eliminated. And if you don’t, it will be stored in the body as FATSSSS!!! Only after eliminating toxins can your body properly absorb the healthy nutrients that we will feed it later on. Detoxing also helps your body renew its ability to maintain optimum health and boosts energy levels.

I was also given 2 bottles of Marie France Bodyline's products, Slendher Figure Slenderiser and Body Tech  perfectionist serum, to add on to my daily skin care routine.

Day 1! Yong Tau Foo with loads of leafy greens, one egg (minus the yolk!) and some protein-rich ingredients. I generally avoid the deep-fried ones so I like this!
Come week 2, it's time to supercharge the metabolism! I was advised this week to increase my protein intake. The body requires protein to maintain lean body mass and thus this helps to hold up my metabolic rate. Proteins also take longer to digest, thus keeping me full for a much longer period of time. I was also told by my nutritionist that I should consume food that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids as they help boost metabolic rate, as well as minerals such as calcium and B Vitamins is also important.

Unfortunately I have a stress fracture on my left shin so I can't do rigorous exercises. No HIIT or running for me, but I can do strength training exercises, which help strengthen muscles. More muscles mean a higher fat-burning capability!

The treatments for weeks 3 and 4 are 4 sessions of Body Contouring Treatments (FMS).
This is when my body is wrapped with a bandage soaked in a specially formulated solution which brings my body temperature down. When that happens, your body will naturally work harder to bring the body temperature back up and that boosts your body’s metabolism rate.

Ever heard of bringing the aircon temperature down to help burn fat? It's the same theory, except the FMS is a lot cooler, and more effective. Another example? When you run or exercise for a good 40 mins, you will feel hot, and your heart will start pumping harder to supply blood to all parts of your body; same goes for when you are feeling cold, your brain will be signalled to send more blood to your entire body to ensure that your body temperature remains. Best of all,I just need to stay seated and I can rest or catch up on my emails.
有没有很sexy? Lol!

I was in and out of the centre in 30 minutes! So what I did was go for my sessions when I have a break between my scenes. ;)

Week 3 is fat burning week! I was also informed about the different body types and how to eat right for my body type.

I was told I am a gonad body type, with a slender upper body and curvy rear. In my head I was thinking huh gonad has something to do with my reproductive system and ovaries, so what do my ovaries have to do with my body type???

For gonad body types, the ovaries are the reason why we gain weight. Any food that stimulates the ovaries will cause us to gain weight. By increasing our intake of foods which help to stimulate the pituitary and thyroid glands, and decreasing ovary-stimulating foods, we can restore balance back to our bodies.

Wow. This is knowledge I never knew!

So what should I be eating???
Plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and non/low fat dairy products. Gonad types are best suited to be vegetarians. Which is great! I love greens and vegetables and generally dislike eating meat.

Gonad types should also avoid red meat, spices (WHAT??? NOOOOOOO~~~~), fried foods, creamy foods and desserts.

I can do with all the rest, but no chilli??? Okay that will be the hardest part.

I can take fish, poultry and eggs in moderation.

I was also informed that gonad types should avoid eating in the late morning and late evening as these are times when our metabolism is very low. The gonads are more active at night which means our metabolism handles food better later in the day than early in the day. That's one thing I've been doing right all my life. I could never eat breakfast, and I never understood why I always feel so sluggish when I do when people tell me breakfast is supposed to kickstart our metabolism. I finally have the answer!

And I'm finally at week 4 of the MFB 30-Day Challenge! Can't wait for the final results!!! I did one final FMS wrap, except this time round I wasn't sitting inside a therapy room, but instead taken to another room with a machine which I had to stand on for about 15 minutes. It vibrates!!! I could literally feel my fats being shaken off! Lol!

My final treatment was ART, where I had to lie down, and the therapist used a machine on my tummy which sucked up my skin while concurrently beat up the fats within. I've never felt anything like that before. It is like a vacuum that sucks on my skin and there is this thing that kept knocking on the surface of my skin. Interesting huh?

Apparently this treatment is one that emits pulse-frequencies to stimulate blood flow and collagen reproduction and help firms my skin and improve the elasticity. I had to drink a lot of water afterwards as this treatment breaks down fats, so drinking water would help to metabolise the fats. The ART also works to help smoothen the appearance of cellulite!

So the results? I lost 3kg at the end of week 4!!!
That's not even the best part.

4 inches off my waist AND 2 inches off each thigh!!!!!!!

I'm happy! Hey, 4 inches off my waist is a big deal okay.
FOUR INCHES HELLO????????

MY CLOTHES FIT A LOT BETTER NOW!!!!!
If I can, so can you. Commit just 30 days to this and feel the difference for yourself. If you've always wanted to lose weight and be healthy, 30 days can make a difference. Plus it's only $300. What's there to lose, really, other than some excess weight? =D

I find myself being a lot more conscious about what I put into my mouth, and all the information taught to me by my nutritionist more than helped me when it comes to making food choices now.
Do something for yourself today which you can smile about later. ;)

Are you ready to take on the Marie France Bodyline 30-Day Challenge?

i-Laser Sculpt Therapy with Marie France Bodyline

$

So you guys know I completed my 30 Day Challenge with Marie France Bodyline and lost 4 inches off my waist right? (Goodness how thick a barrel was I???)

I went back for a visit post Christmas and CNY (because you know, all those festivities dining and social gatherings?) and realised the centre at Bishan has gone for a major facelift! It looks awesome and feels so chic now!

I also checked out their new treatment which can help you achieve results in JUST ONE SESSION. We're all busy people, right? One session sounds like a steal if you don't have time to keep going back for treatments. The lesser treatment it takes to achieve the desired results, the better.

i-Laser Sculpt Therapy
So what is this sorcery???

i-Laser Sculpt Therapy is a fat burn treatment, which is part of Marie France Bodyline's 3-Step Body Wellness System of Detox, Activate and Burn. I've mentioned this in my previous post, so you might want to check that out (and also read up on my 30-Days Challenge if you haven't already done so).

Detox helps cleanse your body of toxins, which will also speed up your metabolism and enhance overall health. Activate is like activating your body's metabolism and blood circulation and maximising their potential so as to expedite the fat burning process. And Burn, which isn't just about burning fats off where you want to, but at an optimal rate, without lowering your metabolism. This is also where advances treatments like i-Laser Sculpt Therapy come into place.

Basically this is a non-invasive treatment combining low-level laser therapy and vacuum massage, and helps you to reduce fat, improve the appearance of cellulites, contour your body, and firm up loose skin. Yes, all in one! Got anymore save time or not?!

So what happens is the laser breaks down the fat underneath your skin and releases it into the system.  This is totally painfree and you basically just lie down on a comfortable treatment bed for 10 minutes. A little warmth is all you'll feel at your treatment area. That's it. Snooze, relax, just let your mind wander. =)

I was also given a head massage while the i-Laser machine works its magic. Mmmm~~~

A 10-min vacuum massage is performed after the laser to enhance lymphatic drainage, remove fatty acids from the area and stimulate cell renewal. Think slimmer silhouette and tighter, tauter, more "toing toing" skin. You'll feel a little vacuum sucking your fats where you want them gone, and it is a pretty interesting experience. No one's going to suck your fats like that so chances are you haven't felt this sensation before. I know I haven't. Lol!

You are then put on a vibrating machine to help "exercise" some of the fats off, for about 5-10 minutes. And you're done! Change out and you're good to go! 30 minutes is all you need, so you can even do this during lunch hour, if you have a Marie France Bodyline centre near you!

The next bit is where you do your part. Within the next 24 hours, you are advised to do some post-treatment exercises so that the fat that is released into the system is burnt off effectively. You are also advised to avoid fatty food during this period of time because well, you already have them released from your problem areas into the body. I feel like I shouldn't need to tell you this but instead of eating more of them, BURN THEM OFF! DUH! This is the best time to do this, and let me explain to you why. You know how with exercising you can never choose which parts of your body fats to lose? Usually when we exercise, and the body just burns whichever part it chooses (and often times we lose the parts we want to keep 😭😭😭). I think we all can relate. This treatment helps you break down the fats from where you want to, and release the fats from that area into the system so that when you exercise later, what is burnt off first are the fats you have chosen to get rid of!

Amazing or what? I lost a total of 3cm in that one session, and it's not water weight. (I know because we took the Body Fat test to make sure.)

Just for my readers, Marie France Bodyline is offering one session of i-Laser Sculpt and one session of Accelerated Fat Reduction Treatment (worth $450) at just $128! That’s a 71.5% discount! The first 20 sign-ups will also receive a travel-sized BodyTech Perfectionist Serum worth $30.

The i-Laser Sculpt treatment will only be available at all Marie France Bodyline centres by end April but do pre-book your sessions so you can get your slots first!

Cheers to great health, and an amazing body!

And here's a video in case you skipped everything I typed above. 💋

11 Things to Love about Klapsons: The River Residences Bangkok

So 3 months ago I was in Bangkok, after having not been there since when I was still an aircrew (no I’m not trying to be haolian cos there’s nothing really to be haolian about), and that was like 6 or 7 years ago!

Why???

Until today I chide myself for not being a photo whore when I was flying and seeing the world. *kicks myself*

Never mind, luckily I ended up blogging which helps bring me around some places.

I was very blessed to be hosted by Klapsons at their spanking new Serviced Residences in Bangkok.

This place is a little gem. I'll share with you why.

1. Colourful, spirit-lifting guest reception.

The colourful reception area! You'll be greeted by colourful furniture and art pieces from acclaimed Italian Designer Willian Sawaya. See those chairs?
I had a lot of fun with those....
A video posted by Silver Ang (@silver_ang) on

See what I mean?

2. Details that make you feel like you are really going away to somewhere nice.

I thought this was so cool. Maybe it's just me, but a full touch-panel doorbell and keycard access device is just so cool to me. Helps that it looks really good too!

3. Apartments that feel like home (at a fraction of the price).

The apartment was a great size for 2. There was a living area, a nice bedroom area and a bathroom I absolutely adore. Ours was a 1-bedroom, but there are 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom units available too!

4. Comfy beds

A must if you want a good night's rest. I was walking around and exploring Bangkok a lot, and the bed was heavenly to return to and plonk myself on.

5. An amazing view

This was taken from our balcony, and overlooks the Chao Phraya River.
I mean, look at this!

6. A very posh lobby area. With plenty of mirrors.

We all need to have that final check of ourselves in the mirror before we head out and meet the world. So the mirrored lobby was a plus for me. Add to that the high ceilings and rich leather sofas, your guests will be impressed. ;)

7. Lush greenery within the compound.

I love being close to nature. Somehow having plenty of greenery has a very relaxing and calming effect on me.

8. Plenty of pools.

One thing I must say I love about The River - the pools.

I could hang out here all day.

The pools were amazing. There were a few pools around - the garden pool, terrace pool, lap pool...so you don't have to worry about overcrowding. Each pool has its own charm so go to whichever suits your mood that day. I suppose this goes with The River theme. =)

If the pools downstairs get crowded and you want some peace and quiet, go upstairs. There is an indoor pool with a nice view, and you can still swim your laps. This is a great option if you want to avoid the sun, or if it's raining.

9. The private boat to Asiatique

Asiatique is this huge shopping and eating area which combines a night market and a mall, and is only open from 5pm to midnight. Spanning a huge warehouse complex with 1500 shops and 40 restaurants, it'll take you a while to finish this place. So it helps that The River has her own boat to ferry residents to and fro this ginormous playground.

10. Amazing Thai Iced Tea for S$1 just outside The River!????

I just had to add this in. This was our best find. If you have a thing for Thai Iced Tea, you'll be pleased to find that upon exiting The River, a 3 minute walk to the right will lead you to a stall which sells AMAZING Thai Iced Tea. We've had our share of Thai Iced Tea that are too dilute, too sweet, too milky...but this one was perfect. It's like an eating joint without a shop space, just a tentage and a cart. (Sorry I didn't take pictures! Look out for the shaggy dog!) Their Thai Iced Tea was the best we've had. If they don't understand you, ask for "Cha Yen" - that's Thai for Thai Iced Tea.
This thing, as big as a man's face, only cost us about S$1. Mmm hmm, you're welcome. =D

11. Close proximity to nearby night markets

A night market is just 10 minutes away. When you come out of The River, you can turn right and walk 10 minutes to the nearest night market, or hop onto a taxi to get to Khao San Night Market, or the Flashlight Market, or the Flower Market (there are more!), which are all about 10-15 minutes away!

The very happening Khao San Night Market.

Do I look happy, or what? Lol!

15 Interesting Facts About Hotel Jen

Hotel Jensen have been popping up in our little island. But there is more to it than just a new hotel chain. I had the opportunity to stay here for a night, thanks to bff Cheryl Tay, who took many of my beautiful pictures below. Here are some facts which may interest you about this new hotel with a girl's name.

1. Hotel Jen is a brand under the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts group.

Shangri La has always been synonymous with luxury travel. The same kind of comfort, more fuss-free, friendlier, Hotel Jen is the fun alternative for the independent traveller.

For a nominal fee, you get to enjoy club lounge access which gives you exclusive check-in and check-out, all-day munchies, complimentary evening cocktail daily, as well as a special breakfast buffet which ends slightly later than the usual timing. This was perfect for me as I love staying up late, which usually means I often have trouble waking up for hotel breakfasts. So if I miss the breakfast, I'd still find food to eat here.

Here you will also find newspapers, magazines, PressReader access to over 2500 newspapers and magazines if the ones in the lounge are not enough for you, and internet surfing desks.

The Club Lounge is on the 19th floor, so a great view is guaranteed while you relax here.

2. Hotel Jen will take over all Traders' identities.

If you have noticed that Traders Hotels are disappearing, you are not entirely wrong. All Shangri La Traders Hotels are now revamped and transformed into, you got it, Hotel Jen.

3. Hotel Jen is named after a virtual persona - Jen.

Hi! I'm Jen!  (Picture Credit: Cheryl Tay)
You wish. Lol. Okay I'm kidding.

Jen is this professional hotelier who's friendly, accommodating, loves life, travel and the adventure of discovering new places. She understands that both business and leisure travellers are getting more independent, and she caters to them by being fresh, friendly, and fuss-free.  ^.^

4. She introduces you to local culture.

Even to the locals.
Remember these? We used to eat them when we were a child, and many of us would just bite the coloured parts off (because that's the sugary part!) and put the biscuits away!
Bet you didn't know this either! Jen also has a travel blog which can help you with exploring our city!

5. There are 2 Hotel Jens in Singapore.

Hotel Jen OrchardGateway is the first Hotel Jen in Singapore. Hotel Jen Tanglin is the second.

6. Linked with an MRT station and 3 malls.

Interconnected with 3 shopping malls in the heart of the Orchard shopping district - Orchard Gateway, Orchard 313 and Orchard Central, and linked to Somerset MRT station that can bring you anywhere in Singapore, you can be sure of a weather-proof experience. We all know how hot and humid our weather gets one minute, and then crazy stormy the next, right?

7. All guests are positioned as "Jen's friends"

And all messages to guests are signed off by Jen herself.
How's that for a personal, friendly touch? =D

8. She provides free Wifi, everywhere in the hotel, all the time.

This is a GODSEND! I could never understand why many hotels in Singapore, especially the big chains and 4-star-and-beyond ones, cannot provide Internet access for free. Our hotels are so much pricier than those of other Southeast Asian countries already, why make us pay another $20-$30 per day just for internet???

Hotel Jen, you got this one right. BINGO!

9. She knows we need our smartphones.

And she knows they die at the most inopportune times. Or that some of us dimwits and scatterbrains will forget to bring our phone chargers when we travel. That's why Hotel Jen provides guests with complimentary phone charging stations throughout the hotel.

10. You only need to pay for one laundry bag of laundry.

You know how most hotels charge your laundry, should you need to wash them, at stated prices per item? Hotel Jen charges your laundry by the bag. You can choose to just wash 2 socks, or stuff your entire family's laundry into that bag, and it will be the same price.

11. You get to work out to an amazing view

You get 24-hour access to the gym, which is great for anyone who loves doing their workouts when everyone else is sleeping.

And check this out, you get to workout under the stars!
This is definitely something new to me - spinning under the stars.

You also get to swim here with this view...
Me likey!!!

12. Jen promises to take care of your stay.

To up the personal friend touch, should Jen be unable to accomodate you when you already have a guaranteed reservation, she promises to rearrange accommodation free of charge, provide you with a complimentary long distance call, and provide transport to and from the alternative hotel.

13. She takes care of your children too, without making you pay a bomb.

Up to 2 children get to stay with you for free in the same room, and if they are below 6 years old, they enjoy free buffet dining in All Day Dining and Pool Cafes when dining with a registered paying adult guest.

More than 2 children or if you have children between the ages of 6-12, you get 50% off the price of their buffet. Not a registered guest? Your children dines for 50% off too!

Of course they have stuff like meat and amazing desserts, but fresh seafood is always a huge draw! (For me at least!) =D

14. Ladies' Night every Friday from 6-9pm!

Unlimited bubbly, house wines, and ciders for the girls for just S$25. Now you know where else to head to on Friday night, ladies!

15. If you are Jen, you get special treatment for 2015!

Yes you heard me right. Anyone named Jen/Jenna/Jenny/Jennifer/any derivative of Jen will get something special this year when staying at Hotel Jen!

For the month of July, Jens drink free, while 5 cocktails/mocktails for her friends will go at just USD3(or equivalent) per drink! Jens also get Free massage by the pool in August, and free lunch for Jen's family in October! More details here!

Why Did You Go Away?

$

Just wanted to share something that happened today, because I haven't really talked personal much in a long long time.

Today, after dinner with the boyfriend,  we were just window-shopping at the mall before he goes for his gig. I then saw at the atrium something which caught my eye, and we went and checked it out. Okay, I went and checked it out, because he soon walked off to look at other stuff. I think I didn't take too long, maybe 5 minutes max? And he did walk back over to check on me about 3-4 minutes in. When I was done and thanked the salesgirl for answering my questions, I tried to look for him around the booth, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Now, of course I got upset. When we go out together, you don't just wander off missing or too far away without first informing me of where you want to go, even if you have zero interest in what I was looking at! I walked around the entire atrium, and in the end decided to call him, after having reached a state of exasperation and anxiety.

I now understand how my dog feels. Alton would go into a state of panic attack whenever I left the house. He's now almost blind, so he doesn't always see when I leave the house. I also try not to let him see me leave because he would scratch the door for a long time after I leave. I've been told that usually when I leave the house without Alton knowing where I've gone to, he would search the house in a frenzy, walking anxiously from room A to room B to the bathroom to the living room to the kitchen and then to room C and back to room A to try to look for me, and this may carry on for an hour after he discovers I'm gone.

I'm not saying I am anxious like that. I don't think I have separation anxiety, but I do get annoyed when we are supposed to be hanging out together, and you go off leaving me with no idea where to find you.

It didn't help that his phone's microphone is faulty, so I wouldn't be able to hear anything when he answers the phone, except when he switches it to speaker mode. I heard nothing, so I hung up. I then got really upset and sent him a text that went something like this -

Me: Hello?????
Me: Why did you just walk off like that???

He then called me back. After he told me where he's at, I hung up the phone and walked (grouchily) over to where he said he was.

I did not expect what I saw next.

He appeared in front of me with a big red rose in full bloom.

Him: Why you so fierce...?
Me: (Still upset) Because you left me standing there alone and I didn't know where you'd gone or where to find you!
Him: *gave me the rose in his hand* I went to get this for you...

This time I was in a state of upset and surprise, plus I was still angry but at the same time happy and touched, so don't try to imagine my face. It must've looked pretty contorted. And I must've looked pretty fierce still because he actually looked scared and upset.

Me: I was looking all around for you and I looked so awkward just now! (must be a face issue)
Him: But I want to buy flower to surprise you, and I cannot tell you where I'm going ma...

I'm a pretty tough woman to surprise, as he must've realised by now (will tell u more on another post), but I'm touched by his trying to surprise me time and again, just to put a smile on my face. =)

Sorry baby for being such a silly quick-tempered bitch. I blame it on waking up too early. But do know that I really really appreciate this beautiful rose, and all the flowers you've given me, and the gestures you often make in trying to make me happy.

現在情緒比較放鬆了, 看到這朵綻放的玫瑰花🌹,我的心情是像這朵花一樣,是盛開的。
謝謝你。

P.S. Also, note to self - Next time I'd rather let Alton know I'm going out, than leave him panicking trying to find me in the house without avail.

Brand Ambassador for Allure Beauty for 2nd Year!

Very exciting news!!!

With Angela Tnee, Founder and Managing Director of Allure Beauty
I am very proud and honoured to announce that I have been appointed Brand Ambassador for Allure Beauty for the 2nd year running!

Signing the very important contract ;)
I remember my very first experience with Allure - that was in year 2010. I was new to blogging, and I received an email from their PR agency asking me to review the eyebrow embroidery service. At the time, eyebrow embroidery was relatively unheard of, although I have come across it. I wasn't too sure what it was though. Was it tattoo? Was it like sewing thread into the skin like what embroidery literally is? What is it???

Not being presumptious, I figured that since I don't know, many people wouldn't either. (Hey I read up so much about beauty stuff!) But then I kind of like declined the offer at first, as I am one of those girls who actually have eyebrow hair. I know of friends who shaved off their eyebrows when they were in secondary school just so they can draw their eyebrows easier, and of girls who have overplucked their brows. For some of them, the brows just didn't grow back. (Yikes, I know.)

Anyway, like I said, I declined the offer, as I figured it wouldn't make much of a difference since I have brows and they were just going to kind of colour it in. I have to give it to the PR girl for being persuasive though, lol, because in the end I figured, oh well, I have nothing to lose, and since eyebrow embroidery was a relatively new thing then, no one has done any reviews, and people would want to know more.

So I went, and was I glad I did! Because that blogpost turned out to the one of my most read posts (google "eyebrow embroidery" and you will find it right there), even until today, and it brought quite a bit of business to Allure, and with positive feedback from readers! As a blogger, I think that is a very satisfying feeling, to know that what you have written about actually benefitted the business as well as the customers who tried the service. 4 years later, they asked me to be their brand ambassador, and I was more than happy to say yes. =)

This is my second year with them. They have been a wonderful team to work with, and every experience with them has been pleasant. To a better future ahead together!

I love you Allure! <3

Uniqlo x Shop Online Lah

Ever since I discovered online shopping, I have been a firm believer in it. "Shop online lah!" has been my favourite line to say whenever someone tells me he/she wants to try to find something in the stores. Because, well, I don't have to pay for someone else's commercial rent, so it's almost always cheaper to buy online.

While browsing through qoo10 (my current favourite online shopping site for any kind of nonsense I can think of - macbook chargers, iPad glass screen protectors, keyboard covers, projectors, lamps, hangers...you name it), I stumbled upon SOL, which stands for Shop Online Lah! I was looking for hangers, which you will see in my next post. I opted for the self-collection method as their office was in Yishun, near my old place at Woodlands. Also, I like going to their offices when I can, so that I can see the full range of items they have. and sometimes their prices are even cheaper than listed on Qoo10 (no commission taken ma). They also have an online shop of their own now if you wish to check them out.

I am a fan of not wearing too much when I sleep, so I was pretty excited when I stumbled upon these in the SOL office.

I brought this back in black, turquoise, white and pink as well. A little sexy. A lot of comfy.

Love wearing just like this when I'm going to bed. Not very convenient when the postman or deliveryman comes with a parcel, but I love it anyway. Uniqlo panties are the only ones I actually buy these days. Seamless, comfortable, snug. Just the way I like it.

(Give them a call or drop them an email if they have yet to post this item up)

HELLO AGAIN!

I'm sure it must have been September 2009 when I first started my blog. I had just quit my cushy job (then) as a flight attendant with Singapore Airlines, and I was venturing back into mainstream media as a *gasp* freelance performer.

Yep. It was a period of uncertainty and certainty - uncertainty because there was no promise of big fat pays (or even a steady paycheck for that matter), no promise of assignments in the media space, I didn't know what was to come. But I was certain that I was done with the airline - I was grateful for everything I had learnt and the people I had met, and it was definitely time I went to pursue what I had always loved - performing and acting. It was something I'd always wanted to do since I was a child, and the opportunity is here for me to pursue it properly. The next few years didn't let me down, as I was given so many opportunities to play purposeful characters, and told so many stories. I have been blessed. ❤️

Of course, after leaving the airline, and in between my assignments, I had quite a bit of spare time. That was when I started blogging, on this very same blog. It was called thatsilvergirl.blogspot.com, and has since been revamped and re-branded because well, a lot has changed since and most of the content aren't relevant anymore. 🙃

Been thinking of doing this for the last 2 years, and yes procrastination took hold of me so I haven't done it until now. But I remember I used to, at one point in my life, love blogging, and how it used to help me document my experiences and share them with the people who care to read.

So here I am again, 4 years since my last post - a different me from who I was so many years ago, but yet still the same. A lot has changed, and I've got so much about my personal experiences to share, that I hope I get to share them all in time. Yes I will include my journey with ketones too - been getting too many questions and I hope the blog will help those who wish to learn more not be so confused and overwhelmed by all my Instagram stories created over the last 2+ years.

Hello dears, welcome to my blog. For my last-time readers, welcome back. It's been a while. And thank you for still sparing your time in my space and what I have to offer. I know I haven't really been gone because I'm on Instagram Every. Single. Day. Lol. But still, I'm glad to be back on this space! Leave a comment to say hi or something, so I know you're here. =D

Love,

Written in Mar 2019, but never published until now.  I wanted to take more pictures so it's less wordy, and I wasn't sure if I could continue to upkeep a blog like I used to, but heck, it's 2021, and I have gotten so many questions I think it's only fair that I share my journey when I first started. "Done is better than perfect" is my mantra for this year. This is my experience, so do understand that everyone's journey is going to be different because we're all unique. Here goes:

As I'm sitting here in my office at 5am, thinking about the last 10 months that have whizzed by, I can't help but feel like "Whoa what happened??" 10 months ago I was not exactly in a very good place - I was chubby, I was at a stage where I wasn't sure if I cared enough to do anything about it anymore without feeling that it was too much work, I woke up feeling like I wasn't sure what to do with myself, I wondered about my existence and what working was for, and also, because Tanglin was ending, I was wondering what's going to happen next for me.

For the clueless, I am an actor based in Singapore, and was working on a local soap drama called "Tanglin" which lasted 3 years. I was comfortable, and didn't really need to "find work", so to speak, as I was secured a contract for a role which was a permanent character in the TV series. I sing a couple times a week at bars, but that wasn't enough for me to live the life of dreams.

That is, if I had dreams. Problem was, I was at a point when I really didn't care. I didn't know why I didn't care, but I wasn't motivated. I was wondering if I still liked acting. I think I did, but there was something that was missing in me - some kind of spark, this passion which I had when I was still in school, an eagerness to go out there and do this and accomplish that and be great. At that time, as much as I hate to admit it, I was just being and not living.

I found some excitement in pole-dancing and exotic dancing, but you know, in class we wore little. I was okay because no one was really judging, I think, except for myself. And you know, that's usually the worst, because we are usually the most critical judges of ourselves. The mirror and the phone that I used to take videos of what were taught in classes were just looking at me like "meh, not really pretty nor perfect, but you're fine I suppose". I got chubbier as I progressed, even though I got stronger. It was okay. I ate when I'm hungry. After all, I worked hard on the pole. I comforted myself, and tried to embrace my body and loved it for what it can allow me to do.

Still, at the end of the day, I was just living day to day, wondering what the hell was I doing here, and what happened to those dreams I once had.

I was also spending a long time preparing to get out of the house - clothes no longer fit nor looked good, and I had to keep changing before I settled on something that didn't make me look fat. So at the end of the day, there would always be a pile that looked like this after I'm done preparing to leave the house:

Then came one fateful day when I was attending a wedding lunch of one of our assistant directors, and I bumped into Nat, who became like 2 sizes smaller since I last saw him just about 2 weeks prior? He told me he was on ketones, and when I heard it was a supplement, I immediately fizzled out a bit, to be honest. I have never been a fan of supplements, and although I would always be ambitious and buy them after knowing the benefits, they would always end up still sitting on the shelf/desk/drawer 2 years later, unfinished. Maybe I would take them for a week, or a few times a week if I remembered, then it wouldn't last a month lol.

So I just dug these out from my drawer, and erm...

Expired. I have more of these at home. Expired too. Probably more expired than the ones in my office.

Nevertheless, he sent me the links and I went to do some reading up on my own. Yes I am a reader and I love to find out what I'm taking if I'm going to be taking it. And after going through my research, I WAS SUPER EXCITED! I mean, I stayed up till the wee hours of the morning just reading and reading and it all seemed so mind-blowing! What do you mean I can still eat carbs and be in ketosis???? HOW????

I understood ketosis, because I've done the Atkins before (and failed cos I couldn't keep off my sauces), so knowing that drinking something would put me right back into ketosis was something that got my really excited.

Now, bear in mind that during this period of time I was super carb-dependent, and carb-intensive. I love mee hoon kway, wanton mee, maggi mee, ipoh hor fun, porridge, and the like. Basically, carbs. Not really a sweet-tooth person so desserts are not dangerous nor tempting to me. Nor are sweet drinks. But omg the savoury stuff - bread, rice, noodles...AND DURIAN rahhhh~~~

I knew there was a business opportunity aspect to this, but I just wanted to drink and lose my look-like-pregnant-but-actually-just-fat belly. And look good and fit into nice things again. I went to Nat's place, bought 2 sachets from him (he wanted to give me free but I know his stock is same price as customer stock so it's not cheap and I don't like to owe favours, thus I did what any considerate human would do), and proceeded to order what I like (raspberry).

First person I spoke to about this was Nelson (Keytoketo.co). I didn't know he faced fat issues all his life and I always assumed he was just slim. It was only after I spoke to him, that I found out his fitness was because he worked his ass off for it. And he was keen to not have to work so hard anymore just to maintain his physique. Plus at the time he was also putting on weight despite still doing intermittent fasting for 4 years - apparently it gets less effective over time? Now Nelson was someone who was totally new to this idea of having to eat fats. He kept on asking if I was sure about this, because he was brought up to AVOID fats. Nevertheless, he was apprehensively excited, if there was even such a thing, and he egged me on to try. I told him I might want to do this as a business if it's really good, and being the good friend he was (and still is!) he told me he would be my first customer, and try it with me. I wish all my friends were like that!

So I tried it for a week. I took 2 sachets a day because that was the optimum dosage (and because I was kiasu), and I started swapping out my carby meals for fat meals. I didn't know what to eat at first, so my go-to was cai png no rice, KFC, mookata and steamboat. I bought bacon and pork belly to panfry/shabu at home. I understood the importance of greens so I ate low carb vegetables which are mainly the dark leafy vegetables.

I noticed in that first week I didn't nap much. I could actually function throughout the day and have good consistent energy. I was trying to get used to it so I was a little grumpy from not eating carbs, probably due to carb-withdrawals. Now, a word about carb withdrawals - many people call it the keto flu. Fact is 1. it is not contagious, and 2. it is not a disease or an illness, and 3. I honestly don't think keto has anything to do with it! It's the carbs yoooo. *rolls eyes*

Having said that, I had a cheat meal on my 3rd day simply because I couldn't resist cooking myself a packet of instant noodles. I felt super guilty after that but I got that craving out of the way. I felt this was important because nothing good ever came out of deprivation for me. Lol. Cravings left unattended would explode in my face weeks later. So yeah, I decided to do my instant noodles. Plus, that was why I took ketones! So that I can still have my occasional carbs and still get smaller! And then all was well until a good friend decided that we go eat chicken rice on Day 8. Hey I don't meet a good friend every day right??? So yeah, chicken rice it was then.

Of course, I started boiling shabu meat and bacon and eating mookata and eggs and KFC (with the chilli sauce of course! HELLO???). And Haidilao.

2 weeks went by, and to be honest I wasn't feeling like I lost a lot of weight. I weighed myself every single day just so I could keep records. I also took measurements, mainly of my chest, waist, belly, hips. To be honest I didn't feel like I lost much weight. The weighing machine just yoyo-ed on me up and down every single day, and I STILL FELT FAT. Nevertheless, I was at my 2 week mark and I decided I should take another picture (I wasn't taking pictures every day):

Diff: <1kg

And this was my result over 9 days. I didn't take my first 4 days' pictures because I was lazy, then remembered I should on Day 5 lol. Nope I did not suck in. This was not photoshopped nor liquified in any way. The first picture wasn't an after buffet picture and the second picture wasn't an after fasting picture. In fact I think I took the second picture after supper lol.

You must be going: NO WAY IS THIS LESS THAN 1KG!

Okay, maybe this picture might explain some things:
Exact same weight of fat vs muscle. Yup I know right??

And then I went about my days, drinking ketones, eating supposedly "sinful" foods that I have been taught all my life were bad and to avoid. I ate hotpot, steamboat, and I was pretty lazy so I bought shabu meat from the supermarket and threw them into water and sometimes that was a meal. I ate avocadoes and nuts, and I ate naked burgers and chicken nuggets. My birthday came around 3 weeks after I started keto and being the considerate host I was (ahem), I had "normal" foods as well. There were glass noodles (tang hoon) and fried rice, together with fried popiah and dessert. I didn't think I looked too bad.

Then came the 6-weeks mark, and I decided to take another picture:

Total weight lost across 6 weeks? Think it might be more than 10kg?
Nope, just 4kg.

Remember we spoke about how fats were a lot lighter than muscle? We want improved body composition so quite frankly, for once I wasn't bothered that the picture on the far right was 57/58kg given my frame (I'm 1.62m, or 5"3.)

Was the journey hard? I didn't think so. Was it hard to be on a diet? What diet? I gave myself carbs every now and then in moderation! I was more aware of the foods I was eating. My energy was great! I no longer felt the laziness and sluggishness I felt before I started, and I was productive! I no longer needed my afternoon naps, and I get to dig out my slim-time clothes! Like hello? I think that was easy enough.

I'm someone who has tried slimming pills, slimming teas, laxatives, medication that gave me heart palpitations, medication that gave me the runs (oily ones too), meal replacements, protein shakes, exercise, getting a gym membership, hiring a personal trainer, going for workout classes, running 4 times a week, cold wraps, hot wraps, slimming centre treatments, fat-freeze... I'm overwhelmed just thinking of everything I've tried omg. This is by far the easiest way I've lost any amount of fat and kept it off. It's been 10 months, and I only see myself getting better each day. Am I getting so skinny you can't see me anymore? No. Lol. I think I'm a good size. I don't workout although I should, and I can look like this. Without starving myself, or going on any kind of deprived diet. If I can do this, I don't see why anyone else can't. I'm such a believer of this product that I've even gone into this business full time. But more on that another time. =)

Now the reason why I'm sharing this is not to boast and show off my results. No this is not about me. I really, truly, and genuinely feel that I need to share this with you so that you get inspired and you can feel that hey, you can do this too. Maybe it's not the end. Maybe you were wrong that you were just meant to be fat and life was just "supposed to be just that". Whoever invited you to read this, reach out to them and ask them. If you got here because of me, I'm so glad you found me and you took time to read this. You can just check out the link here, watch the video, and please reach out to me. I want to be able to help you, since the fact that you read till this point kinda shows me that you have some hope (or at least curiosity to find out more) to be better.

Will be updating more in the coming days and weeks (or months) ahead. (I feel really good that I finally got my ass down to writing this post and reviving my blog again. And I'm grateful that you're here reading!) The products may be confusing to a lot of you, so I will be doing one just to share about the products and what to expect, very very soon. Love you guys, and see you soon!

Sending Alton Off with Sanctuary Pet Cremation

This is a really heavy post to write, but I thought I should document it, as I did receive some messages from pawrents whose furkids are about to make the transition over. I hope you read this with an open heart and mind. ❤️ (I'll also be adding more videos/photos to this post later on, for my own memory lane, and for further reference for some of you.)

Alton passed with us by his side at about 8am on Tuesday morning, 18 May 2021. I have been bringing Alton to the office every day for the last few months cos his overnight barking would usually wake the family up, and out of courtesy to the family I just thought it's less stressful for everyone if I spend the night doing work at the office. I didn't know what happened exactly, as all his wounds have recovered very quickly, he was loud and his appetite was good. I didn't bother to do an autopsy (cos really there's no point, just let him go beautifully). I just picked him up, and held him in my arms for the longest time.

The first thing I did was to text Eze, my animal communicator. I'll share more about this in the next post. I wanted to know if there were anything else I could do for Alton, if he wanted any of his belongings to be cremated together. (Some pets do, but Alton didn't want anything.) I was told Alton was already on his way to the rainbow bridge, which was good. Some dogs may hang around and not want to leave their owners, but I'm guessing Alton now can run and has great use of his legs, and it's been a long time since he could run, that he just started to make his way to where he was supposed to go. I was advised to light a candle for the next 48 hours for Alton to help him light his path to the rainbow bridge, and that I can only do a rainbow bridge connection to communicate with him about 3-4 days after his passing - first 48 hours for his transition over, and the next 1-2 days for him to get used to his non physical body at the rainbow bridge.

While waiting for Eze's reply, I proceeded to make a call to Sanctuary Pet Cremation. As Alton was very old, and even though pretty healthy, I had previously done my homework. I didn't want no surprises, and I didn't want his sending off to be an anyhow affair. After all, he is family. The reviews have been good, and reassuring. Melvin from Sanctuary picked up my call, and gave me a few options for the time slots, as well as an option to pick Alton's body up. I was also informed of the price upfront, and it was really reasonable. There were 2 same day slots in the evening, but I really wanted to bring Alton back home, clean him up nicely and have him spend one final night at home in his own bed. So I asked if I could take the next day slot, and if there's anything I need to take note of. I was advised to keep him in an aircon environment to preserve the body better, and to just wipe him down with wet wipes. And if I felt uncomfortable at any time at night, they could come pick him up. Melvin also asked me to send him a photo of Alton, so they could prepare his portrait photo.

I brought him home, and let everyone have an opportunity to hold him, before bringing him to shower. Yes, I showered him, instead of just wiping him down. He had dried up saliva all over one side of his face, and he was a little scruffy. I washed him with his shampoo, like how I would have done always, carefully avoiding water in his mouth and nose. I washed his ears, his paws, his underbelly, his face...

I then blow dried him and ensured he was fully dry, before giving him a final paw groom and a little haircut and fur brushing so he's neat and handsome to go.

I also had to make sure I standby tissue, as there was no more bladder and bowel control, so I would place some tissue around those orifices in case he leaked.

I had a scented candle on for him that night, and he slept in his own bed, at the foot of my bed, for the very last time.

The next day, when we reached Sanctuary, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was actually within the old D'Kranji Farm Resorts (now Gallop Stables), at the side. Alton had stayed there on one of our staycations at the villa before! And my mum used to go to De Beer Garden there, and I would bring Alton to go run around. So it was in a way, an old familiar place for me and my furboy.

There was a sign for Alton ready for us to have a private session.

At the reception area, we could pick out a bouquet for Alton. Buy additional ones of your own before heading there if u want a luscious floral bed and with flowers of your choice for your furkid's send off, as the flowers provided have only 3 options. At the reception area you can also select some keepsake options like paw imprints, or a pendant to keep a bit of his fur with us, at a small cost. I went with the pawprints. (Had already kept some of his fur earlier on at home.) We could also choose whether we wanted a dog coffin, or just go with the board that was provided. I kinda regretted not bringing his bed along so he could lie comfortably, since I won't be keeping his bed, but I guess that was fine. We didn't go with the coffin as we wanted to go with a more environmentally option and didn't want to waste wood.

When all the selection was done, we were brought over to the private hall where we would spend the next 30-45min with Alton before the cremation. Here we were given the opportunity and privacy to prepare his flower bed, write him a letter, drawings, and bid our final goodbyes. The whole environment was very serene, with soft music in the background, and parrots next door (there's a parrot farm next door.) Tissues and wet wipes are provided, in case, you know, you need to either clean yourself up from too much cryng, or clean your pet up in case of accidental leaks. The bed was placed right in front of the kiln, which was decorated in a way that symbolized the rainbow bridge, which I thought was a tasteful and nice touch.

Melvin came in and carefully took Alton's paw prints, and was out to leave us with our private moments.
My sister drew the best depiction of Alton in his prime - a very crazy fast running zoomy dog who's always so happy and full of life. Yes that's how I remember this boy, before the challenges of old age took over.

When we were ready (or when it was time - I think one can never be ready for these things), Melvin came in and briefed us on how the cremation will be done. Then he opened up the door to the kiln, and slowly pushed Alton in.
I was to be the one to personally push the button to close the door and start the cremation process, when I was ready. It was a symbolic touch I thought - I brought him home, and it was only right that I be the one who sends him off on his way too. I stood there for a bit, thanking him for all the years of love and happiness, and pressed the button. I stood in front of the door, and we waved our goodbyes and urged him to go, just like how I would when I sent him to his pet boarding holidays, or to doggy day care. He would always look back and bark. So I imagined he would do the same, and I urged him to keep going as the doors closed. It was the strangest feeling ever, but I know I'd rather be the one doing it, to be there for him till the very very end.

After that, we were brought to another room where we were served tea while we wait for the ashes to be ready. The process would take about 1 hour. Here we could select the urn for his ashes, as well as any pendants if we wanted to keep a part of your furkid with you. There were some really nice urns that looked very un-urn-like, so you definitely have some choices here. I picked out a couple, and I decided to let Alton's ashes decide which ones to go with. If they were all crumbly, then I'll go with the smaller one. I personally liked the bigger one (cos it was more classy looking) and it didn't have a smaller design available.

1 hour later, Melvin presented Alton on a nice tray lined with a cloth. Many parts were pretty intact, and Melvin was very patient in showing and explaining to us which ones were what. His skull, femur bones, toes, pelvic bones, jaw... It was undeniable Alton.

And I guess he kinda chose the big urn I originally liked (but wondered if it might be too big). Cos I wasn't going to crush his skull to fit thru the opening into a smaller one. I knew I would be living in a landed house, and I knew I wanted Alton to be there. So the bigger urn was perfect, and I also chose a pendant that could double up as a key ring, so when I got my keys to that house, Alton would guard those keys. He would have liked running around in a big house with a nice garden!

We were advised on how to put the ashes into the urn on our own, and Melvin helped us with the small small powdery fragments with a small brush. He packed the urn nicely for us so it wouldn't spill on our way home.

I'd say I picked one of the pricier urns, as well as some of the nicer keepsake choices (a photo frame with Alton's paw prints, and a locket pendant for his ashes), and the total only came up to be about 600+ sgd. I thought it was really reasonable. The price stated for the a service for a dog of Alton's weight (~6kg) was 388sgd + GST, and already includes flowers and a standard urn. I was also presented with the papers should I need to deregister Alton's dog license with AVA.

Alton was sent off in a really dignified manner, it was a private service, and everything was done properly, in a beautiful setting. Truly grateful to Melvin and his team. Hopefully me sharing  my personal experience and documenting it helps another pawrent out there, should the inevitable moment come. ❤️
